It gives me great pleasure to present the Carlos III University of Madrid Research Report for 2007 and 2008. This report serves to inform both the University and the scientific community of the research being carried out during this time. This year, we have also included information for 2004 – 2006 so as to provide a broader vision of the University’s research activity.
During these five years a positive evolution can be seen in our research. This is undoubtedly due to the University’s clear commitment to excellence which has been established through greater funding, both public and private, as well as a notable increase in scientific output.
This report is produced in a multimedia format, as in the previous edition, but using more audiovisual contents with new videos presenting general research areas as well as the University’s research groups.
Information is structured to allow the reader to access the overall figures of the University as well as more specific data by departments. All of the data are accompanied by graphs/charts for easier reading.
This report reflects the efforts of the entire research community. I would especially like to congratulate our researchers for their accomplishments and to thank them, along with the department and research services personnel, for their hard work and dedication to this project.
Research Funding by Centres
Both the School of Engineering and UC3M's 2 Schools played important roles in obtaining funds to cover the expenses of research activities. The School of Engineering increased the funding it obtained for research in 2008 by 60.1% and 46.1% with regard to 2007 and 2006. In the School of Humanities, Communication and Documentation the increase in funding obtained in 2008 was 97% and 43.7% with regard to 2007 and 2006.
National Plan Funding
In 2008 UC3M's positive trend in obtaining funding from the National R+D+i Plan held steady, with a 78.6% increase in the funding obtained with regard to 2007.
Funding by professor
Funding obtained by tenured professors in 2008 rose by 74.7% with regard to 2006. This shows the research community's good response to UC3M's research promotion and management policies.
