Competitive Funding

In 2008 19,884 million Euros in competitive funding were obtained compared to 7,189 million in 2007. This type of funding represents 56.18% of the total obtained by UC3M in the last year, confirming the progress of this University’s competitive capability.

Coordinated Funding

In 2007 and 2008 there was a significant increase in funding from companies and public administrations through research contracts and agreements. In 2007 this funding rose 31.1% with regard to 2006. Over the last seven years, this increase has reached 160.67%.

Research Funding

The total funding obtained for research activity at UC3M grew in 2008 by 38.4% with regard to 2006, exceeding 35 million Euros. Over the last seven years, it has increased by 163.3%.

One fourth of our Departments exceed one million Euros in the funding obtained

UC3M's Departments are increasingly more active in obtaining outside funding to finance their research. In 2008 nearly one fourth of our Departments obtained more than one million Euros.

National Plan Funding

In 2008 UC3M's positive trend in obtaining funding from the National R+D+i Plan held steady, with a 78.6% increase in the funding obtained with regard to 2007.

Research Funding by Centres

Both the School of Engineering and UC3M's 2 Schools played important roles in obtaining funds to cover the expenses of research activities. The School of Engineering increased the funding it obtained for research in 2008 by 60.1% and 46.1% with regard to 2007 and 2006. In the School of Humanities, Communication and Documentation the increase in funding obtained in 2008 was 97% and 43.7% with regard to 2007 and 2006.

Funding by professor

Funding obtained by tenured professors in 2008 rose by 74.7% with regard to 2006. This shows the research community's good response to UC3M's research promotion and management policies.

Internationalisation of research

In 2008 funding obtained by UC3M in European projects increased by 42.3% with regard to 2006. These data reflect the University's resolute wager on research internationalisation.

Mobility

UC3M's wager on training young researchers through research stays at prestigious scientific centres meant an increase in mobility of 24.8% and 11.2% in 2008, with regard to 2006 and 2007.

Publications

In 2008 publications by UC3M faculty members underwent a 7.5% increase with regard to 2007. The number of total publications by faculty members grew to 1,345 in 2008.
