Toward a Greater Internationalization of Research

The UC3M international research is one of the main pillars that support a firm commitment to excellence and quality. The participation in European projects and consortia allows researchers to be in the forefront of science by sharing experiences and learning from the best R&D centers. In order to achieve this objective, the University encourages and assists its professors to prepare, negotiate, and manage international projects.

  • The funding obtained for international projects has reached for the first time a level in 2012 that is equal to the funding level obtained in the National Plan’s call for unguided basic research projects, following an upward trend.

  • The participation in European projects is highly noteworthy, with UC3M among the 10 Spanish entities with higher return in the FP7 projects in the areas of ICTs, Socioeconomic Sciences and Humanities, and Space (CDTI report, December 2011).

  • The leadership in European projects has multiplied by 3.5 in the last years, moving from the 2 projects coordinated in the 6th Framework Program to the current 7 for the FP7.

  • The UC3M proposal success rate in the FP7 has increased 20% in 2012 with respect to 2009.

  • The participation in other international programs has increased considerably: e-Content Plus, DG Justice, Freedom and Security, Criminal Justice, COST, CIP, Eureka, Iberoeka, DG Home Affairs, Joint Technology Initiatives, Human Frontier Science Program, etc.

  • The permanent office in Brussels (OPERA), within the framework of the A4U, has been strengthened with more presence and a greater number of activities on dissemination, prospect, and identification of opportunities.
