Transferring Knowledge to Society

The high competitiveness of the UC3M researchers, the rise in the number of relationships with leading businesses, and the participation growth in networks, clusters, and platforms have allowed growth of most of the knowledge transfer indicators to the society and the productive sectors.

  • The funding obtained from contracts with businesses generates a net positive evolution because, despite the 25% drop during the 2011-2012 period with respect to the previous biennium, this decrease is less than the 42% contraction of the public investment in R+D in Spain.

  • The number of business contracts has remained the same with nearly 1,000 of them, thus demonstrating the sound competitiveness of UC3M despite the economic crisis.

  • The number of patents applied for by the University has experienced a significant 14% increase during the 2011-2012 biennium with respect to the 2009-2010 one, thus placing UC3M second in Spain per patents generated according to the 2011 Psicothema Ranking.

  • The number of spin-offs and startups from the University’s Business Incubator has doubled in 2012 with respect to 2010, with currently 46 businesses registered, most of them recognized by outside institutions with awards from Galileo Masters, SIMO Network, Intel Business Challenge Europe, Premio Madri+d, Premio EOA, etc.

  • Employment in companies from the Incubator has reached 148 people, of whom 50% are highly qualified and involved in direct activities concerning R&D and innovation.
